I like it. Originally, visages were a way to commune with the other races of Azeroth, so that they would feel more comfortable interacting with dragonkind. But that's not needed any more. We ride dragons for crying out loud!Emberthal doesn't feel the need for another form because she's content with the way she is. There's no reason to choose a visage if she doesn't want to. Changing your appearance merely for the sake of others never brings anyone happiness.Honestly, I always thought dragons chose visage forms so they could fit through doorways, have hands to do things with, and to wear killer outfits if they so desire. Emberthal can already do those things, so what's the point?
I like it and think it's good writing, and I'm a frequent complainer of dragonflight writing. I don't like the cuddlification/infatilization of previously prickly or mature lore characters like Maiev, Shandris, Lillian, Tyrande, and Alexstrasza. But in this expansion there are hidden gems like the blue dragon quest line, the quests with Kalecgos in Iskaara, and many side quests. The problem isn't emotional action-lite stories, it's flaws and inconsistency in characterization that bothered me in other stories. Yes, this quest line is about identity and has big queer vibes, and I like that. I think there's a lot of new queer people on the Blizzard writing teams, and there was hardly any queer rep before this expansion so I find it refreshing as opposed to too much, not that I would ever find it too much. This story gives you a little insight and puts some flavor into characters you grew to care about previously, and that's something WoW often neglected. Plus, it's just a side quest. It looks like you probably lose nothing by ignoring it, and if you hate wokeness you are not obligated to read the quest text. Just tune in for the main quests which are sure to be more bombastic.
a comment section full of miserable adults(men) who havent cuddled another human being in years. the questline is fine. the mf's complaining have the addon to auto accept quests anyways.
um, nice article and all, but where does this quest start? kind of an important detail left out, no?
I skim the questlines here to see whether they're worth reading more intently in-game. So far hardly any have been, sadly.
Honestly I'd forgot who Emberthal even was, let alone remembering a fact that she didn't have a visage. Well, I'm not a nay sayer so I'll go along with what they've done, since she'll possibly never show up again :p
I mean, if I were Emberthal, I'd definitely choose a visage just to be able to see what I am wearing once in a while
What happened to wow? The story is just so bad nowadays, it's just so soft modern I can't understand why anyone would be excited about this at all. I couldn't care less about emberthal or anyone in dragonflight, the story is just the worst it's ever been and I'm losing interest in the entire game.Let's go back to garrosh saying the B word and let's have some blood, guts and glory, please god.
This quest looks amazing- a BUNCH of interesting NPCs with even more interesting things to say-I love that there are so many gay characters in this quest. WoW is a place where love is love, and i'm glad the team gets to tell these kinds of stories. Also, another canonical Night Elf Worgen! Hope we get that as an option for our non-worgen forms someday.
Emberthal never struck me as diplomatic, so I don't really care about this. One dragon-look-alike doesn't want to look like yet another elf? Fine, just send in a messenger when it's time to talk with the backwater locals. What I do care is that this quest is going to send me all over the place. Let me assure you that I have never cared for quests that do that. Even when the vanilla game's Zelda based quest line did that... and I grew up on Zelda games.
So much writing about what DRAGONS would do, when we're talking about DRACTHYR here. They were created with one single purpose, and then imprisoned for centuries. Now they were freed and are trying to figure out their new purpose given that both their original one, and the one they were released for, are gone.
This isn't bad writing. The writing is okay. I think the issue here is there are very opposing expectations because of the sheer amount of how many writers and narrative directors the game has had over the years. They've tried to please people with opposing expectations and these are the results.I am a dracthyr main, and I don't like the way they've been introduced or handled. I think these topics are important, but this entire questline is pressing the matter so much it feels forced. Yeah, it's great to be yourself. Dragons and dracthyr can choose how they present. Full stop. That is a non-issue. There is no need to add commentary to the trans/nonbinary veiled issue here. They're important enough to be spoken about plainly. Ingame if you want. Add a trans character, use their perspective to raise awareness for this, make it a storytelling device. But this feels so... unnecessary.
Jeez, that's a lot of dialogue
I hope this is a way of telling us that we can pick our own visage... or stay in Dracthyr form all the time if we wish.
Lmao they heard how annoyed people were by all the same-sex couples being shoved in our faces, and now they're introducing a new quest line to make you go back and talk to every one of them, despite the fact that none of them have anything to do with the story being told. Incredible.
