nice post. i agree with you in everyway. An even better example of this is Thrall, he looked and felt so epic in the warcraft games but what do we get in wow? looks like some level 20 orc thats just come out of the barrens.
I always thought that some of the WoW models were somewhat less unique. The best exaple is Cairne Bloodhoof. Aside from the totem as a weapon, he's just a normal Tauren, not even his armor is much different from the players'. On the other hand, Thrall has his Hammer, the black armor and looks (face-wise) like we know him from Warcraft III, so he, in return, is very close to what we were expecting to see.I must however say, that some models, like the ghoul are, in my opinion a bit better. The WoW version of the ghoul is much more humanoid, emphasizing the fact that he was indeed once human, however, he's still "undead" enough to be believeable and his hucnhing, slow walk animation just ads to that. One major factor, however is that Blizz just seems to reuse the same models over and over again. I was so happy when I saw Brutallus (yay, a different pitlord model) and I think that WoW needs a little bit more of that. Minor modifications on a model, that in-gamer however clearly seperate (to use the pit lord example again, Brutallus and Magtheridon for example.)

I wholeheartedly agree with what the writer of this post implies. Warcraft 3 had its extremely distinct stylisation... and next to it, WoW seems a little dry (even though i like the graphics of WoW a lot). Thrall, and generally the great heroes of the Warcraft universe, for example... would really deserve some modeling love. I love what they did with Sylvanas and Wrynn, but why do Thrall and Cairne still remain in their simple "lvl 20 orc/tauren" forms? Also, what the hell happened to the awesome accesories we could see in W3, and in its official artworks? We had trolls with numerous totems on their backs, with hanging bones and masks, and a lot of other cool stuff... dwarves with skulls braided into their beards..Also, might be just me, but i would really like if blizzard finally made chest and legs armors that have actual 3d models... some of the armors could look really awesome, if they werent just a texture on your bare chest, now they are just a bunch of stats, and you cover them with a tabard anyway...And the worst of the worst... the repetitive models. Look at the Wrath armors... there are like 9 or 10 different items for every single 3d model... you can theoretically create about 7-8 characters with totally different gear, ranging from low level items to raid drops, but looking _exactly_ the same. Why cant we get something unique, like a chest piece that would actually be a coat? Come on, everyone loves coats, and what would be a better place to wear a coat, if not the cold Northrend? Also.. since the beginning of WoW, cloaks still remain what they were... a towel bound around your neck. Gosh, go to www.google.com, and type "Cloak" into image search. THATS how a cloak should look like. :[ Dunno... i just find the armor models of WoW somewhat... dull...
I was always big on Scourge in WCIII, either them or Horde. For Scourge, I usually had a large endgame army of Frost Wyrms, Gargoyles, Abominations, and I usually used the Lich as my first hero, then the Death Knight and Crypt Lord (I wasn't big on the Dreadlord, for some reason). For Horde I usually used the Tauren Chieftain first (part of the reason I was attracted to Tauren when I started WoW), followed by the Shadow Walker and then either the Blademaster or Far Seer.
I DARE YOU to compare wow models to Warcraft 2 models. That's known as "evolution" xD
compare warcraft1 to world of warcraft3. lol.
Well, I think that we're no9t comparing two games here but the two art styles the games employ.
I picked up WoW because 1) my brother was getting into it 2) "The Burning Crusade" sounded cool, so I didn't know anything about the Lore until I started playing, but I have always been disappointed with the looks of Thrall and Cairne. Thrall's voice is his only distinguishing feature, but other than that, the "20 lolz orc" comment still holds true for this poorly underdone NPC.
