Priest Dragonflight Class Tree
Priest Dragonflight Talents - What’s New?
For the class tree, Discipline has some interesting damage synergies very early on.
Gedankenschlag
,
and
Schattenwort: Tod
synergies to increase their efficiency and defensive values from an early point. The spec starts off strong with hard breaks between damage and healing, even allowing Discipline to take advantage of a lot of synergies for
Erneuerung
/
Gebet der Besserung
but strangely enough not one that makes
Gebet der Besserung
an instant cast ability since that T2 trait was lost in Dragonflight.
Seele der Macht
of course returns, as well as
Zwillinge der Sonnenpriesterin
which are both required to spec through in order to get to the
Verblassen
defensive from Shadowlands'
Durchscheinendes Abbild
. Almost everything in the Priest class tree is available in Shadowlands, the only difference is the options and selections being vastly improved.
Standhafter Wille
is one of the few non-Shadowlands points and I omitted it earlier because it has such minimal impact for Discipline.
does not replace
Blitzheilung
so you will not benefit from the reduced cast speed there, which leaves only
Heilige Pein
which already casts very rapidly.
Machtwort: Leben
was one talent that I was incredibly interested in for Discipline as an overly safe option for Mythic+, but after testing, I am exceedingly disappointed in. The 20% health threshold is incredibly low, it seems to be a hasted cooldown for some strange reason and it doesn't seem to heal for very much even when used correctly. Would highly recommend a higher threshold of 40-50% health with a lengthier cooldown to properly be an "emergency button" to save an ally from death as opposed to a rotational key. Finally,
Erneuerung
does not seem to do much healing on its own, relying primarily on
Segnung
procs to produce the "free" output, but with a cast time associated with
Gebet der Besserung
this seems very unattractive for Discipline to take advantage of with any regularity.
Priest Dragonflight Talent Tree - First Impressions
The Priest talent tree looks to be fairly well-made but there are some major issues that I have noticed throughout my alpha testing. Firstly,
Läuterung des Bösen
does not replace
Schattenwort: Schmerz
which causes some annoying issues in synergistic talents as mentioned above. Discipline receiving
Gebet der Besserung
baseline seems interesting but when there is a
cast time
attached to it, it starts making the ability less and less interesting for the spec to utilize. There are also major inconsistencies with damage dealing abilities in the class tree for Discipline. Mainstays like
Schattengeist
and
Gedankenspiele
produce
Abbitte
output, but
Kristalline Reflexion
and
Schattenflammenprisma
do not, making these options considerably less desirable.
With these new class trees it
looks
at first impression that the spec has gained some additional options or variety to utilize legendaries from Shadowlands that we frequently eschewed, but when they do not interact with
Abbitte
or are supremely lowly tuned then there is no reason to even touch the surface of these other abilities and it feels almost like you fall back into the same-old song and dance. I believe that Discipline
must
have additional
Abbitte
synergy in their class tree to promote actual variety in gameplay.

Discipline Dragonflight Talents - What’s New?
Discipline has received a few new talent options but a ton of augments to existing talents. For
Abbitte
modifiers there are increases to duration for
or
Machtwort: Schild
in
Lichtblick
and
Indemnität
.
Schattenbündnis
is back with additional modifications, this time allowing you to cast Holy spells but at reduced effectiveness making the ability more flexible if you need to cast a dispel for example. Additional buffs for
Schattenbündnis
include duration increases and a spell-school change to
Sühne
allowing it to be cast at full effectiveness during
Schattenbündnis
duration.
Läuterung des Bösen
is now independent of DStar/Halo allowing for additional DoT spreading and more consistent long-term DoT duration making it much easier to manage. Unfortunately it does not replace
Schattenwort: Schmerz
oddly enough, meaning that
Quälende Schmerzen
will not synergize with
Läuterung des Bösen
. Furthermore, DStar/Halo both have a Shadow-spell modifier with the one for DStar in particular dealing a hefty DoT which synergizes with
Schattenbündnis
but does not currently produce
Abbitte
healing.
Zorn des Lichts
makes a massive return to the game for Discipline, allowing for an excellent burst alongside
Gedankenspiele
staying on the Priest class tree as well.
Sühne
has tons of modifiers allowing it to be a damage spell, to spread an additional
Läuterung des Bösen
, increase the damage from
Die Macht der dunklen Seite
, and additional bolts from
Sühne
in
Strenge Disziplin
. All of these modifiers allow for significantly more damage from baseline Priest abilities, shifting the power of your damaging abilities from covenant spells to baselines priest spells, more work needs to be done to complete this rebalance as
Abbitte
output in general on Alpha feels fairly low but that is fairly normal in a 5 man environment.
On the utility side, Discipline will have access to
Prediger
AND
Nachsicht
for the first time ever. That damage reduction, paired alongside
Machtwort: Barriere
will make Discipline even more powerful in a raid environment and could encourage double Discipline compositions if
Nachsicht
continues to be stackable. In Castle Nathria in particular, but frequently throughout raid progression, Discipline was heavily reliant on
Anregen
s to afford the high costs of powerful ramps. Now with the updated talent system, Discipline can flex into Holy talents such as
Erleuchtung
to improve their mana regen. Even though
Inneres Licht und innerer Schatten
is a mandatory pick in our talent tree, it does not seem to have as flexible of use as PvP because of the GCD restriction upon it, leading many Discipline Priests to just sit in the Inner Shadow form full-time instead of swapping stances.

synergy in their class tree to promote actual variety in gameplay.
Discipline Priest Dragonflight Talents for Raiding - How Strong is It?
View in Dragonflight Talent Calc
The above Discipline build is a fairly-standard setup that emphasizes
Abbitte
extensions from
Prediger
to setup large scale burst output from
Zorn des Lichts
or
Gedankenspiele
. It maintains strong damage reduction from
Machtwort: Barriere
and
Nachsicht
while taking a ton of modifiers to increase
Sühne
healing.
Notably,
Euphorie
is omitted on the spec side. This could easily be taken in exchange for lower
Schisma
duration or less
Sühne
damage. It feels very poor at the moment being forced into low-tuned
Machtwort: Glanz
buffs in order to get that 2nd charge of Radiance we are all so used to, and many of the modifiers for
Schmerzunterdrückung
are just incredibly poor in value.
Verherrlichung
is quite terrible and the loss of additional
Abbitte
extensions from
Euphorie
is especially noticed, meaning
Geisthülle
is really never much of an option.
This tree feels fairly devoid of choice for raid gameplay. Trading out a bit of damage for some shielding but not really doing much to alter gameplay in substantive ways. From a raid perspective even the class tree seems a bit too focused/simple on what Discipline will select. There's no incentive to select increases to
Gebet der Besserung
output like
Segnung
when there is a casttime attached and zero
Abbitte
interactions.
Heilige Nova
is still a very poor spell and AoE damage doesn't translate well into healing.
In general this seems like a decent upgrade from the existing talent trees but there does need to be some polish added to low-tuned talent points like
Machtwort: Glanz
,
Schmerzunterdrückung
, and
Euphorie
supports to make them more desirable or just feel less-bad when being pushed into taking them like in the case of
Machtwort: Glanz
. On the Priest side there are many damaging abilities that do not produce
Abbitte
output and if they did, they would be substantially more attractive to take.
Overall, Discipline looks slightly more defensive, similar in mobility, with more options to produced sustained
Abbitte
output than the burst-heavy nature of Shadowlands and brings slightly better utility with
Nachsicht
. I don't expect many overhauls from here and I don't really think its needed for Discipline but I would like for the devs to very early on give attention to the rotten branches of the tree like
Kristalline Reflexion
to make these options feel more like options.
