Priest Dragonflight Talents - What’s New?
For the first time in ~6 years,
Tour du destin
will be returning to Holy Priest's tree, offering a solid healing increase in dungeons and progression raid content.
Mot de pouvoir : Vie
is a new ability where you'll have a "healing execute" of sorts which heals an ally instantly if they're below 20% health but if they are NOT, then it takes health from the caster to heal them. This is a VERY niche ability but seems to have more application in Raiding than Mythic+ where transferring health to a low-ish tank or a player with a DoT could be life-saving. Waiting for the perfect sub-20% threshold in a key environment however, is incredibly niche when you're as good of a healer as me :), but seriously you may use it a few times a key because usually if they're low, you're low and potentially hurting yourself when you're healing alone is very risky.
Priest Dragonflight Talent Tree - First Impressions
Prêtresse des Jumeaux du soleil
is given to Priest on the way to
Image translucide
but receiving
Infusion de puissance
yourself as a Holy Priest isn't much of a benefit. With
Prière de guérison
being baseline and receiving many modifier talents, what is noticable is the LONG casttime on the spell which did not exist in Shadowlands, thanks to a Tier 2 talent modifier while leveling.
Thankfully
the latest changes of this week's alpha build have removed the cast time without incurring a talent point cost!
Some talents in the tree have good impact for PvP but negative impact for PvE.
is one of those. While this gives PvPers two spell schools to heal from, it does not carry any interaction with
Mot sacré : Sérénité
meaning that Holy Priests will rarely, if ever, use this in a PvE environment. In general, the Priest tree feels very much like it has extremely clear routes for Holy, Disc and Shadow with not enough cross pollination. Not having an interrupt in the class tree for example, not having much optional/unique utility (maybe an Improved Vampiric Embrace?) while still keeping poor conduits and legendaries like
Reflet cristallin
is very strange. The baseline tree looks fairly good but there are certainly some dead/rotten branches around. I am concerned that there is not enough choice in the middle of the tree where a lot of very situational utility like
Saut de foi
and
Entraves des Morts-vivants
are kept, instead of more impactful spells.

Holy Priest Dragonflight Talents - What’s New?
Puits de lumière
probably is the most interesting returning ability for Holy Priest but it is currently plagued by bugs and unnecessary constraints to the ability. For one, it currently spams a target and overrides its existing buff until the target is above 50%, causing most charges to be wasted and for another its range is incredibly small. As happy as I am to see this ability return, I would like to see them dream a bit bigger with the spell and maybe produce a way for the Priest to control the healing affects of the Well rather than just passive healing on low targets.
Mot divin
is an incredibly interesting ability which mimics some of the old Chakra effects. I like this talent a lot from the flexibility it brings and for the much needed single target bonus it provides now that the
Concentration éclair
legendary is gone.
Brasier empyréen
fills out the capstones and very new talents allowing for multidotting potential with
Flammes sacrées
or to simply stack up the DoT on one particular enemy. This is incredibly good for Mythic+ and commits you to a more damage oriented playstyle. I wouldn't mind seeing
Flammes sacrées
DoT stacking up to 2x like it used to and then extending after that as it feels almost like the DoT is a bit too minor these days and with this you can potentially have a limitless duration DoT on the enemy since there does not seem to be a cap.
Like the class tree, the Holy tree itself has very clear routes that you take if you're raiding or running mythic+ but not really that much cross pollination. If you're in keys there are damage and single target options (albeit a bit weaker than I'd like) and if you're raiding there are AoE output options, but beyond that they seem very surface-level in how straightforward your routes are with minor debate over small talents here and there.
Holy Priest Dragonflight Talent Tree - First Impressions
It almost feels like there are not enough options in the Holy Priest tree that you can almost take everything until the final tier. Compared to Shaman's mighty oak tree, it feels like the Holy Priest tree is a bit lean in the middle and the end lacks compelling filler talents. For example,
Appareil harmonieux
was split off into three individual pieces that all feel very weak on their own, especially when you can only have 10 points in the final tree so these are supposed to be the premium points.
I'm very surprised that there are no modifiers for
Prière de soins
bonuses, not as many
Soins rapides
increases to account for
Concentration éclair
's removal and no talents that offer a different way of approaching Holy Words in general. Like making it possible for one Holy Word to be used again but at the expense of another or for allowing Lightwell or other new abilities to echo/mimic our casted spells to put together a more bursty and less steady output healer. Blizzard stated that it would be possible to make "bad" builds with their trees with how many choices that are available but I feel that the Holy-spec tree has so little choice that you can't really make that bad of a build or really that unique of a build from other people even if you wanted to. It is a good tree, but not particularly advanced, possibly by intent.
Holy Priest Dragonflight Talents for Raiding - How Strong Is It?
View in Dragonflight Talent Calc
This build embraces the flexibility and variety that Holy Priest brings with some oppourtunities to meaningfully change up gameplay options in Dragonflight.
Rénovation
seems a bit undertuned in current Alpha but these talents do point towards more support and value given towards actually casting the spell if the tuning is tweaked somewhat. Certainly utilizing it in conjunction with
Mot divin
can result in more efficient casts while also buffing output for another seemingly low-tuned ability in
Prière de soins
.
With the loss of
Concentration éclair
, there are some minor buffs like
Mots résonnants
sticking around but overall not too terribly many, giving HPriest the feel that each of their spells feels a bit on the low side and you might be reliant upon heavy Holy Word synergies to truly build up the most output as there are a ton of Holy Word reducing talents in the Holy tree.
Compared to live, this is a major shift in how you play and it seems like the spec does need some additional tuning, or perhaps just better gear scaling, before it actually feels "strong" in either AoE or single target output.
Hymne divin
, its modifiers and
Mot sacré : Salut
should stay strong but the usual spells don't feel very powerful in this build and it all sort of feels low value/low impact. I think
Mot divin
could/should be the fulcrum talent for the spec and should receive a lower cooldown or maybe charges so that the spec can rapidly empower their abilities to improve their output when necessary. Perhaps the inclusion of "the empowered Holy Word will not incur its cooldown" would be possible and make for some more powerful follow up output.
Currently Holy feels a bit tankier, but much weaker in single target output and the AoE doesn't feel much improved.
Prière de soins
spent all of Shadowlands as a horrible spell and it still has no modifier support in the spec tree.
Prière de guérison
is thankfully now instant cast but many of its modifiers are lowly tuned conduits and not very interesting. Lastly,
Appareil harmonieux
was split into 3 pieces in the final talent tree where points are supposed to be premium and each of those selections feels
horrible
to take when you consider what they compete with. I think this tree is
okay
but with some more work it could be truly great. More talent options modifying PoH, some interaction between Binding Heal and
Rénovation
would be interesting and perhaps more single target support off of
Vague de Lumière
procs would be just what the spec needs to properly thrive in raids and mythic+.
It is still very early in Alpha but I am hopeful that we will see at least some continued support for Priest trees moving from Alpha into Beta and continued communication on the level of Legion Alpha/Beta.
